Heritage Programs Leader 

The Heritage Programs Leader plays a vital role in organizing and leading diverse activities, fostering community engagement, and contributing to the enhancement of our heritage focus.

The position is flexible as to start and end date, as well as the number of hours per week. We have a total of 650 hours available which would need to be completed by March 31, 2025. 

The focal activities of the position will be Fridays and Saturdays, where the Leader is responsible for managing the Youth Leadership Program, a community lunch event and a Saturday Market. In addition, and depending on your availability and interests, you could also work with children’s camps, create and lead workshops, organize and run films, work with seniors programs, support the development of food programs, volunteer engagement, administration, community development, and of course, develop and improve our historical information and artifact collection. Or potentially other areas of interest that align with our purposes.

Key duties will include:
– Assist in the organization and leadership of weekly food and market programs.
– Develop & lead simple weekly crafts and activities for all ages
– Supervise and support volunteers and Youth Leadership Program participants
– Assist with regular events & activities
– Promotion, advertising, marketing & public relations
– General office administration
– Additional duties as required to support the organization’s goals.

Additional tasks, as interested, could include any of the following:
– Develop and lead food, farm & heritage workshops or tours
– Lead a Youth Leadership Camp or Children’s Camp or program
– Contribute to the development of a farm and heritage skills workshop database.
– Enhance heritage and art displays to create an enriching visitor experience

Preferred skills and knowledge:
– Experience developing and leading food or skills related activities.
– Interest or knowledge in heritage, rural or farm life skills and culture.
– Strong communication (verbal and written), customer service, and interpersonal skills.
– Familiarity with local activities, resources and community groups
– Pursuing a degree in Agriculture, Management, Business, Tourism, Community Development…
– Foodsafe certification (preferred)
– Current First Aid Training with CPR & AED (required)
– Current Criminal Records Check (required)

Anticipated Hours: Based on the preference of the successful candidate, this position can be part-time or full-time. A total of 650 hours are available starting as soon as suitable candidate found and must be completed by March 31, 2025. Some remote work is possible. Onsite Fridays/ Saturday work is preferred.

Wage: $18.00 – $21.00 per hour DOE.

This position is dependent on funding from Young Canada Works, as such it is only available to:

  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada;
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • Between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
  • Will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) during the Young Canada Works (YCW) work assignment;
  • Have been a part-time or full-time high school, college, CEGEP, or university student in the semester preceding the YCW work assignment; and
  • Intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW work assignment.

Summer Programs Coordinator and Leader

Pender Island Community Hall is now accepting applications for a Summer Programs Coordinator and Leader. The position is contingent on funding and is open to youth 19 – 30 years old, Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible refugee.

Key Duties
– Pre-summer: Program planning, scheduling, advertising, staff training & orientation, administration, etc
– During summer: program leadership, administration, direct staff and volunteers
– Program delivery, budget management
– Summer staff, Youth Intern and Youth Volunteer Management
– Evaluate programs at end of summer; create a comprehensive summer report
– Assist with events and activities
– Carry out additional duties and responsibilities as required

Preferred Skills and Experience:
– Excellent organizational, communication (verbal and written), customer service, and interpersonal skills.
– Knowledge of local activities, resources and community groups
– Experience with office procedures and budgeting.
– Experience with program planning, safety, instructional methods & leadership techniques.
– Experience leading children 6 – 12 years of age and youth 12 – 18 years of age
– Experience organizing and leading games songs, crafts, drama and other recreational activities.
– Interest or knowledge in heritage, rural or farm life skills.
– Ability to handle emergency and discipline situations.
– Ability to supervise, evaluate, motivate, and challenge interns and staff.
– Bronze cross, NLS and Foodsafe would be an asset
– Current First Aid with CPRC and AED (required)
– Satisfactory Current Criminal Records Check (required)

May and /or June – Flexible hours, up to 30 hours.
June 26 – Sept 2, 2024 – 35 – 40 hours a week
Pay range $18.50 – $22.00 per hour DOE.

Internship: Summer Programs Leader

Want to develop your leadership ability,  build work skills, challenge yourself, and make an important impact in the community? We are looking for creative, organized, and enthusiastic 15 – 30 years olds (Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible refugees).

Tailored to each team members unique interests and skills, our positions encompass a diverse range of potential areas, including activity leadership, food & farm programs, maintenance skills, youth leadership & engagement, administration, marketing, computer tech, community development.  These positions are crafted to support and inspire you to explore, grow, learn and challenge yourself. Staff will benefit from comprehensive initial training and continuous support throughout their journey with us.

Key duties will include:
– Lead or support a children’s camp, fostering a positive and enriching experience
– Assist with regular events & activities, camps, youth activities, food programs
– Basic facilities management tasks (cleaning, grounds keeping, basic building maintenance)
– Work with local community partners to foster connections and collaboration
– Additional duties as necessary to ensure the smooth operation of programs and initiatives

Additional tasks, as interested, could include a combination of any of the following:
Food – Assist with the Market set-up and takedown
– Work with existing food programs
– Develop and lead food, farming  & heritage related activities

Youth – Plan and lead regular youth (10 – 24 years) activities and events
– Support, train and encourage volunteers and Youth Leadership participants

Older Adults – Plan and lead activities which focus on developing strong community connections
– Support volunteer engagement in programs which are of potential value in emergencies

Other – General office administration
– Technical support and improvements
– Promotion, advertising, marketing & public relations
– Creation of short informational videos
– Organize and run special community events and activities
– Development of volunteer training and orientation
– Assist with building projects

Recreation Program Leaders

Do you have ideas for recreation or activity programs? Do you want to share your skills, crafts and knowledge? Do you want a part-time casual job as a Program Leader? Then we want to hear from you!

As a Program Leader you will be responsible for planning, organizing and leading recreation activities. Activities can include, but are not limited to: arts, crafts, sports, games, workshops, dance, music, nature programs and organizing special events. Youth Activity Program Leaders

(Position is open to youth ages 15 – 30 years)

Adventure Earth is a weekly program for youth ages 13 – 24 years which typically focuses on:
– Outdoor leadership
– Civic Engagement
– Food and Farm Skills
– KSA (knowledge, skills, abilities)
– Intergenerational Engagement

We are looking for 3 – 6 people for this exciting opportunity. The team will work both collaboratively and individually. Training and support will be offered if interested and hours are flexible so Leaders can manage school and life responsibilities.

Leaders will be encouraged to take on one area of focus, then plan one activity per month. They can either directly lead the activity or find a special presenter. The leader will be responsible for organizing, advertising, running and reporting on each activity.

Anticipated Hours: 6 – 16 hrs per month (as per mutual agreement)
Wage Range: $16.75 to $19.00 per hour (depending on experience)

Bookkeeper 

The Pender Islands Recreational and Agricultural Hall Association (PIRAHA) is seeking a permanent, part-time bookkeeper (contract position), approximately 20 hours per month. 

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Bookkeeping for all society programs, including projects, grants, and fundraising
  • Working with reserve and prepaid accounts
  • Processing bi-weekly payroll and regular payroll reports 
  • Processing bank deposits, and performing bank account reconciliations
  • Recording donations and issuing various donor receipts 
  • Completing the annual T3010 filing, and GST credits administration
  • Working with the Treasurer to provide regular reports to the board
  • Liaising with staff regarding payroll and business procedures

 

Requirements: 

  1. Minimum two years bookkeeping experience, preferably in the non-profit sector
  2. Experience with Sage Business Cloud Accounting and/or Sage 50
